Samsung & Google Unleash the $1,799 Galaxy XR Headset, Challenging Apple’s Dominance

Samsung and Google have officially unveiled their highly anticipated Galaxy XR headset on October 28, 2025. With a price tag of $1,799, it’s approximately half the cost of Apple’s Vision Pro.

The device runs on Android XR, Google’s new spatial operating system, and features Gemini AI integration for enhanced user experiences. The Galaxy XR represents a significant collaboration between Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm, bringing AI-powered mixed reality experiences to consumers at a more accessible price point.

The headset offers immersive visuals, voice and gesture controls, and the ability to pin multiple apps in a virtual workspace environment. Early adopters receive an “Explorer Pack” including 12 months of Google AI Pro, YouTube Premium, Google Play Pass, and NBA League Pass.

The device supports 3D photography, real-time search with Circle to Search, and seamless integration with Android’s app ecosystem.

Industry analysts view this as Google’s strategic move to expand Android beyond smartphones into the emerging XR market, while Samsung aims to regain leadership in a product category it hasn’t dominated since the early smartphone era. The launch signals intensifying competition in the mixed reality space as tech giants vie for market dominance.
