Massive Disruptions Strike US Airlines: 584 Flights Cancelled

American air travel faced severe disruptions today with 584 flight cancellations and 4,549 delays reported across the United States. This left thousands of passengers stranded at major airports including New York, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Nashville, and Pittsburgh.

Southwest Airlines bore the brunt of the impact with 653 delays. American Airlines reported 77 cancellations and 684 delays amid thunderstorms affecting Charlotte, Miami, Phoenix, Boston, and Las Vegas. United Airlines faced 401 delays, while JetBlue reported 74 cancellations and 271 delays.

Weather-related issues were the primary cause of these disruptions. Boston Logan International Airport faced average delays of 137 minutes due to runway construction and airport closures. High winds led to ground stops at JFK, LaGuardia, and other New York area airports, with some locations seeing delays averaging 250 minutes.

“Republic Airways alone is facing 111 cancellations and 332 delays, contributing significantly to the overall total,” according to FlightAware data.

The ripple effect is affecting passengers nationwide, with airlines allowing affected travelers to rebook without additional fees. Passengers are urged to check flight statuses regularly and arrive early at airports.
