Airbus Breaks Industry Record with 8,769 Aircraft Backlog
European aerospace giant Airbus has set a new industry record with an unprecedented backlog of 8,769 commercial aircraft at the end of October 2024. This milestone surpasses its previous record of 8,749 jets set in September. In October alone, the company received 82 new aircraft orders and delivered 62 aircraft to 37 customers worldwide.
The massive backlog primarily comprises single-aisle aircraft. A staggering 7,832 units, or 89% of the total, are A220 and A320 family narrowbodies. Year-to-date, Airbus has secured 749 new orders. This includes 549 single-aisle aircraft, 64 A330s, and 136 A350s. The company is working toward its revised 2024 delivery target of 770 aircraft, which necessitates an ambitious 127 deliveries in December alone.
This record backlog reflects the unprecedented global demand for new aircraft. Airlines are rebuilding and expanding their fleets in the post-pandemic recovery, driving this demand.
