LAX Terminal 5 Shuts Down for Comprehensive Renovation Ahead of 2028 Olympic Games
Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has announced the closure of Terminal 5 at LAX on October 28, 2024 for complete demolition as part of major infrastructure upgrades ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The terminal will undergo a full reconstruction and is scheduled to reopen before the Games begin.
During the closure period, airlines are being relocated to other terminals:
- JetBlue Airways moved to Terminal 1 on October 21
- Spirit Airlines relocated to Terminal 2 on October 22
- American Airlines shifted operations to Terminal 4 on October 28
This massive infrastructure project represents LAX’s commitment to providing world-class facilities for the millions of visitors expected during the 2028 Olympics. The renovation is part of a broader modernization effort to enhance passenger experience and airport capacity.
