AMD and OpenAI Embark on a $90B AI Infrastructure Alliance
On October 6, 2025, AMD and OpenAI unveiled a colossal 6-gigawatt agreement to fuel OpenAI’s forthcoming AI infrastructure with several generations of AMD Instinct GPUs. This partnership, valued at an astounding $90 billion, commences with 1 gigawatt of AMD Instinct MI450 GPUs in the latter half of 2026.
In conjunction with this strategic alliance, AMD granted OpenAI a warrant for up to 160 million shares (roughly 10% of AMD). This is structured to vest as deployment milestones are accomplished and AMD’s stock price hits targets up to $600 per share. “This partnership brings the best of AMD and OpenAI together to create a true win-win enabling the world’s most ambitious AI buildout,” expressed AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su.
The agreement places AMD as a pivotal strategic compute partner in line with OpenAI’s other infrastructure agreements. This includes partnerships with Nvidia (10 gigawatts) and the Stargate initiative. Following the announcement, AMD’s stock experienced a 35% surge, mirroring investor confidence in the company’s AI hardware capabilities.
