United Pioneers with First Starlink-Equipped Mainline Flight

United Airlines etched its name in aviation history on October 15, 2025, with flight 2940. Departing from Newark Liberty International Airport to Houston, this marked the first instance of a major U.S. airline offering Starlink Wi-Fi on a mainline flight. The connectivity spanned across both personal devices and in-flight entertainment screens.

The milestone flight utilized a Boeing 737-800 (registration N77525) equipped with two Starlink antennas. This setup provided passengers with internet speeds of up to 250 megabits per second. The service is complimentary for all MileagePlus members and offers experiences such as live streaming, gaming, video calls, and real-time work collaboration at 30,000 feet.

Customer feedback from United’s regional fleet, where Starlink has been available since May 2025, has been overwhelmingly positive. A staggering 90% of passengers appreciated the high-speed, easy-to-use connectivity.

“We’re committed to raising the bar when it comes to the onboard experience, and with Starlink, we’re changing how people fly,” said David Kinzelman, United’s Chief Customer Officer.

The airline has ambitious plans for the future. They intend to install Starlink on 15 Boeing 737-800 aircraft per month. This will result in nearly 2,940 antennas planned across its entire fleet.
