Nintendo Aims for Record-Breaking 25M Switch 2 Units by March 2026

Nintendo has set an ambitious target, requesting suppliers to manufacture a whopping 25 million units of the highly anticipated Switch 2 console by the end of March 2026. This marks a significant leap from the company’s initial forecast of 15 million units, reflecting their extraordinary confidence in the console’s demand, spurred by its impressive early performance.

Manufacturing partners are optimistic that Nintendo could sell approximately 20 million units during the current fiscal year. This projection substantially exceeds analyst estimates of 17.6 million units. The Switch 2 has already set new sales records globally, selling 2.4 million units in its first three months in the U.S. alone. This achievement surpasses the PlayStation 4’s previous record, making the Switch 2 the fastest-selling video game console in American history.

The production ramp-up is in anticipation of strong holiday sales, and Nintendo remains confident despite potential U.S. tariff challenges. The company initiated the assembly of the Switch 2 around late 2024 and may adjust final production targets based on consumer response during the peak shopping season.
