Unveiling of Samsung’s Galaxy XR Headset: A New Era in Mixed-Reality
Samsung has officially confirmed the launch of its highly anticipated mixed-reality headset, Project Moohan. The unveiling is set to take place at the “Worlds Wide Open” Galaxy event on October 21, 2025, at 10 PM ET (7:30 AM IST on October 22). This marks Samsung’s significant foray into the extended reality market, posing a direct challenge to Apple’s Vision Pro with a potentially more affordable Android-powered alternative.
The device, a collaborative effort with Google and Qualcomm, will operate on the new Android XR platform. It will also leverage advanced AI integration through Google’s Gemini assistant. Early reports indicate that the headset will feature micro-OLED displays with an impressive 4K resolution and 4,032 PPI. This supports multimodal interactions, including voice, gesture, and visual commands, eliminating the need for controllers.
Unlike Apple’s closed ecosystem, Samsung’s XR headset will provide access to familiar Android apps. These include YouTube, Google Maps, Netflix, and the Play Store. The device, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor, weighs approximately 545 grams. It boasts an ergonomic design for extended wear. Pre-orders are now open, with a $100 credit toward additional products.
