Google Pledges $15 Billion for India’s First AI Hub

Google has unveiled plans for a substantial $15 billion investment to set up its inaugural artificial intelligence hub in India. This marks the tech behemoth’s most significant investment in the South Asian country to date. The historic announcement was made on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at a New Delhi event graced by Indian IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian.

The investment, which will be spread over five years, will see the establishment of a 1-gigawatt data center and AI hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. “It’s the largest AI hub that we are going to be investing in anywhere in the world, outside of the United States,” Kurian declared during the announcement.

The facility is set to boast gigawatt-scale computing capacity, an international subsea cable landing station, and large-scale energy infrastructure. Google CEO Sundar Pichai personally discussed the ambitious project with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing that the hub will “accelerate AI innovation and driving growth across the country.”

This strategic investment comes as India is pushing to reduce its reliance on U.S. tech giants, with the government promoting “swadeshi” (made in India) products. The hub is projected to create up to 180,000 jobs and position Visakhapatnam as India’s AI capital.
