End of an Era: Microsoft Terminates Windows 10 Support After a Decade

Microsoft has officially ended support for Windows 10 today, October 14, 2025, after nearly a decade of service. This significant milestone affects approximately 400 million users worldwide who will no longer receive security updates, bug fixes, or customer service support for the operating system.

Windows 10, which launched in July 2015, became one of Microsoft’s most popular operating systems despite initial resistance from Windows 7 users. The OS successfully bridged the gap between traditional desktop computing and today’s cloud-integrated era, running everything from gaming rigs to office workstations.

Microsoft is encouraging users to upgrade to Windows 11, which offers stronger security features, better hardware support, and built-in AI capabilities. However, many users have expressed nostalgia and frustration on social media, with some joking “Don’t go, Windows 10!” – reminiscent of similar reactions when Windows 7 support ended in 2020.

While affected PCs will continue to function normally, the lack of security updates leaves them vulnerable to future threats. Microsoft is moving forward with its focus on Windows 11, arguing that modern AI features require a more advanced foundation.
