Samsung and OpenAI Forge Strategic Partnership for AI Infrastructure Development

Samsung and OpenAI have announced a comprehensive strategic partnership on October 1st. This alliance aims to accelerate global AI infrastructure development. It brings together Samsung Electronics, Samsung SDS, Samsung C&T, and Samsung Heavy Industries under OpenAI’s ambitious Stargate initiative.

The partnership positions Samsung Electronics as a strategic memory partner for OpenAI’s global expansion. Samsung has committed to supplying advanced semiconductor solutions to meet OpenAI’s projected demand of up to 900,000 DRAM wafers per month. Samsung will leverage its extensive portfolio of high-performance, energy-efficient DRAM solutions and advanced chip packaging capabilities.

“The world is at a pivotal moment with the advent of AI, and the industry must collaborate to effectively chart the future,” said Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Y. Lee during the signing ceremony at Samsung’s Seoul headquarters.

The collaboration extends beyond semiconductors to include potential AI data center development in Korea through Samsung SDS.

The partnership supports Korea’s ambition to become a top-three global AI nation. This will be achieved by scaling up production of advanced memory chips and expanding data center capacity. Samsung and SK will also explore deploying ChatGPT Enterprise and API capabilities into their operations to improve workflows and drive innovation.

This agreement represents Samsung’s broader “AI for All” vision. The company continues integrating AI services across all product lines to enhance customer experiences for billions of users worldwide.
