Skyfly’s eVTOL Testing in US Receives FAA Approval

UK-based Skyfly has achieved a significant milestone. The Axe Vertically Capable Aircraft (VCA) has received experimental authorization from the FAA, allowing piloted flight testing to commence in the United States. This approval enables the British company to continue its development program during the winter months, leveraging the more stable weather conditions in the US.

The two-seat electric aircraft boasts a fully electric range of 100 miles, extendable to 300 miles with a hybrid option. It features eight brushless motors for redundancy and glide capability, enhancing safety. CEO Michael Thompson emphasized that the authorization places the Axe “at the heart of the U.S. market – the largest and most dynamic general aviation community in the world.”

With the FAA’s updated MOSAIC rules, eVTOL aircraft can now be certified as Light Sport Aircraft for the first time, simplifying the certification process. Skyfly has an ambitious timeline planned:

  1. Verification flights this winter
  2. Customer demonstrations beginning in early 2026
  3. First deliveries targeted for summer 2026
