Unprecedented Growth in Cruise Industry: 37.7 Million Passengers Projected for 2025
The global cruise industry is currently witnessing a phenomenal growth. According to the latest State of the Cruise Industry Report from Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), an estimated 37.7 million ocean-going passengers are expected in 2025. This marks a significant rise from the 34.6 million passengers in 2024, with North America leading the growth at an impressive 13% over the previous year.
Expedition and exploration cruises are showing the fastest growth, boasting 22% more passengers in 2024 compared to 2023. The industry is set to welcome 11 new ships to the global fleet in 2025. Furthermore, 56 new CLIA member ocean-going ships are on order from 2025-2036, representing a whopping $56.8 billion investment.
When it comes to the most popular destinations, Caribbean/Bahamas/Bermuda itineraries continue to reign supreme, capturing 43% of all cruise passengers. This is closely followed by Mediterranean and European destinations.
