October 2025 Transport Strikes Cause Major Disruptions in Italy

October 2025 is set to be a challenging month for travel in Italy. A series of transport strikes are expected to cause severe disruptions to rail, air travel, and local transit services across the country.

The first nationwide strike kicked off on Thursday, October 2, initiated by the SI Cobas union. This 24-hour general strike, which lasted until October 3, affected major rail operators such as Trenitalia, Italo, and Trenord. Airport and local public transport workers also participated in the strike.

Air travelers should brace themselves for additional disruptions in mid and late October. On October 13, employees of Aeroporti di Roma (AdR), the entity managing Rome’s Fiumicino and Ciampino airports, will stage a four-hour strike from 12:00 to 16:00.

Further disruptions are expected later in the month. On October 29, staff at Milan Linate, Florence, and Pisa airports are scheduled to strike for 24 hours.

Authorities have issued a warning that disruptions may extend beyond the official strike windows. Delays and cancellations are likely, and international visitors are advised to monitor official transport websites closely. They should also consider flexible booking options to mitigate potential travel difficulties.
