Launch of the World’s First Electric Aircraft Race in Ohio

The groundbreaking Pulitzer Electric Aircraft Race is set to commence from October 10-15 at the Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport in Ohio. This marks a significant milestone as the world’s first manned all-electric air race. The historic event will see five teams, with three aircraft in the fray: two Pipistrel Velis Electros from Lincoln Park Aviation and one BETA Technologies Alia eCTOL.

This competition breathes new life into the Pulitzer Trophy races that were held from 1920-1925, but with a modern twist – the focus is now on sustainable aviation technology. Pilots will compete over three laps on a 30-nautical-mile triangular course in preliminary, semifinal, and final heats. The primary objective of the event is to increase public awareness and confidence in the capabilities of electric aviation.

The organizers, hailing from the Advanced Air Mobility Institute, have meticulously designed the race to not only showcase the current performance levels of electric aircraft but also to inspire the next generation of pilots and innovators. The winner will be celebrated in a grand ceremony at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.
