Sri Lanka Revives Electronic Travel Authorization System for Enhanced Tourism

Sri Lanka has reinstated the mandate for all foreign visitors to secure an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before arrival, effective from October 15, 2025. This initiative is designed to streamline travel procedures and invigorate the country’s tourism industry.

The revival of the ETA system enables travelers to apply for entry permits online, significantly diminishing the need for visa applications upon arrival. This efficient method is anticipated to bolster Sri Lanka’s capacity to manage international visitor influx effectively, thereby improving the overall tourist experience.

The reimplementation is expected to positively influence Sri Lanka’s tourism revival. By simplifying the visa process, tourists will find it more convenient to organize their visits to this island nation, celebrated for its diverse culture, breathtaking landscapes, and rich history. The country specifically aims to draw more international visitors from regions with robust travel ties, including the United Kingdom, India, and the Middle East.
