Firefly Aerospace Ventures into Defense Sector with $855M SciTec Acquisition

Space technology firm, Firefly Aerospace, announced its acquisition of defense contractor SciTec Inc. on October 5, 2025. The deal, worth approximately $855 million, signifies a substantial expansion into the national security sector. The transaction comprises $300 million in cash and $555 million in Firefly shares, valued at $50 per share.

Based in Princeton, New Jersey, SciTec is renowned for its specialization in advanced defense software analytics, missile warning systems, and AI-enabled threat tracking technologies. The company generated an estimated revenue of $164 million for the twelve-month period ending June 30, 2025. This income was primarily from contracts with intelligence and defense agencies.

The acquisition is set to bolster Firefly’s capabilities for the U.S. Space Force’s “Golden Dome” missile defense program and other critical national security missions. SciTec brings to the table expertise in missile warning, tracking and defense, intelligence surveillance, and autonomous command and control systems. The deal is anticipated to close by the end of 2025, subject to regulatory approvals.
