Major Travel Disruptions in Italy Due to Nationwide Strikes

Travelers in Italy are facing severe disruptions due to a nationwide general strike that coincided with mass protests across the country on October 3, 2025. The UK Foreign Office has issued warnings about additional demonstrations expected to draw tens of thousands of participants in Rome on October 4.

The travel chaos extends well beyond these initial strikes, with 40 planned strikes scheduled between now and the end of the year. Major airports including Rome Fiumicino, Pisa, Florence, and Milan Linate are expecting walkouts later this October, which could significantly impact both domestic and international flights.

Travelers are strongly advised to check with their airline or train operators before departure and allow extra time for journeys, especially in areas where demonstrations are occurring. The strikes represent a turbulent period for Italy’s transport sector, potentially affecting millions of tourists and business travelers during the busy autumn travel season.
