OpenAI Unveils Advanced AI Video Generator Sora 2 and a TikTok-Like iOS App
OpenAI has officially unveiled Sora 2, a cutting-edge AI video generation model, along with a new iOS app that functions akin to a social media platform for AI-generated videos. The announcement was made on September 30, 2025, following months of eager anticipation.
Sora 2 is capable of creating 10-second videos with synchronized audio from text prompts. It boasts improved physics simulation and realistic motion. The most notable feature is “Cameos”, which enables users to insert themselves into AI-generated videos post identity verification. The iOS app is currently invite-only and free at launch, available in the U.S. and Canada, with plans for Android development in the pipeline.
“Prior video models are overoptimistic—they tend to morph objects and deform reality to successfully execute upon a text prompt,” OpenAI elucidated. “In Sora 2, if a basketball player misses a shot, it will rebound off the backboard.” The platform incorporates robust safety measures, content moderation, and watermarking for AI-generated videos. Users of ChatGPT Pro will gain access to a superior “Sora 2 Pro” model.
