Windows 11 2025 Update (25H2): A Featureless Release by Microsoft

On September 30, 2025, Microsoft officially released the Windows 11 version 25H2, also known as the Windows 11 2025 Update. Interestingly, this update brings no new features to the table for consumers, marking a significant shift from the usual annual Windows updates.

The update is delivered as a compact enablement package (eKB) that’s less than 200KB in size for devices already operating on Windows 11 24H2. It encompasses 41 fixes and performance enhancements, eliminates legacy components like PowerShell 2.0 and Windows Management Instrumentation command-line (WMIC), and resets support lifecycles for various Windows editions.

Microsoft characterizes this as an “enablement package” that triggers features already embedded in the 24H2 codebase. The update is being rolled out progressively, commencing with users who have activated the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option in Windows Update settings. For enterprise users, it will be accessible via Windows Server Update Services starting October 14, 2025.
