Microsoft Announces Second Xbox Price Increase of the Year
Microsoft announced on Friday, September 19, that Xbox Series X and Series S console prices will increase in the United States starting October 3. This marks the second price hike this year.
The Xbox Series S will jump from $379 to $399, an increase of $20. Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X will rise from $549 to $599, a $50 increase. The premium 2TB Xbox Series X model will now cost $799, up $70 from its previous price.
Microsoft cited “changes in the macroeconomic environment” as the reason for the increases. However, industry experts point to tariff pressures affecting manufacturing costs. This follows similar price increases from Sony and Nintendo, as gaming companies navigate challenging economic conditions.
The price changes will only affect the U.S. market. Microsoft stated that pricing in other countries remains unchanged. Controllers and headset prices will stay the same, offering some relief to consumers facing the second Xbox price increase in less than five months.
