Grab and WeRide Unveil Singapore’s Premier Autonomous Shuttle Service

Singapore’s leading ride-hailing company, Grab, announced its collaboration with Chinese autonomous driving firm WeRide on September 20, 2025. The partnership aims to introduce Ai.R (Autonomously Intelligent Ride), the first autonomous vehicle service for consumers in the city-state. The service will utilise 11 vehicles on two specific routes in Punggol, featuring WeRide’s five-seater GXR and eight-seater Robobus models.

Handpicked by Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA), this initiative signifies a crucial breakthrough in Southeast Asian autonomous transportation. Both vehicle models have successfully cleared Singapore’s rigorous Milestone 1 (M1) safety assessment, making them the first autonomous vehicles in Punggol to achieve this certification. Initially, trained Grab Safety Operators will accompany every ride, with the commercial passenger service projected to commence in early 2026.

Alex Hungate, President and COO of Grab, expressed optimism about the potential of autonomous vehicles to enhance connectivity in underserved neighbourhoods. This partnership is a continuation of Grab’s strategic investment in WeRide, announced in August 2025, with the objective of expediting Level 4 robotaxi deployment across Southeast Asia. WeRide reported a remarkable 836.7% revenue surge in Q2 2025, with robotaxi revenues alone amassing $6.4 million.
