BVI Cements Its Reputation as Global Sailing Hub with New Trademarks
The British Virgin Islands (BVI) has officially secured three new trademarks that reinforce its status as a premier sailing destination. On September 18, 2025, the BVI Tourist Board & Film Commission announced the registration of “The British Virgin Islands – Sailing Capital of the World™“, “British Virgin Islands – The Undisputed Sailing Capital of the Caribbean™“, and “The British Virgin Islands – Sailing Capital of the Caribbean™“.
Registered for a decade starting from May 7, 2024, these trademarks bolster the Territory’s global identity. They are set to feature prominently in upcoming global marketing campaigns. The BVI, with its 60 islands and cays offering steady trade winds and navigable channels, continues to garner global recognition. This includes being named to The New York Times “52 Places to Go in 2025” and earning top spots in Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards.
“Securing these trademarks is a powerful step in protecting our identity and strengthening our position in the international market,” said Clive McCoy, Director of Tourism for the British Virgin Islands.
