uAvionix Unveils Enhanced Safety Features in Major AV-20 MFD Software Update

Montana-based uAvionix has unveiled the software version 1.8.0 for its AV-20-S and AV-20-E Multi-Function Displays, introducing a completely re-engineered Angle of Attack system and expanded aircraft compatibility.

The complimentary upgrade addresses customer feedback from the previous v1.7.1 release, focusing on performance, usability, and accuracy improvements. The standout feature is a redesigned AoA algorithm that was previously “tricky to configure and often went unused,” according to company officials.

“With v1.8.0, AoA performance has been completely re-engineered to deliver top-notch reliability,” the Big Fork, Montana-based company stated. The new system integrates airspeed, altitude, accelerometer data, and vertical speed changes through advanced filtering, providing precise performance across all flight phases.

The enhanced AoA system aims to reduce loss of control risk during critical maneuvers, particularly in base-to-final turns and low-speed approaches. Version 1.8.0 also expands compatibility to challenging installations including Carbon Cub, Mooney M20E, RV series, and Lightsport Savage Cub aircraft with tilted instrument panels.

Additional features include:

  • An analog clock face
  • Expanded G-meter capabilities with aerobatic mode
  • Persistent timers
  • An improved user interface

Senior software engineer Dean Harken emphasized that the updates “greatly expand the AV-20’s usefulness” with enhanced safety features and intuitive design.
