Record-Breaking Tourism in Spain: 11 Million Visitors in July 2025
Spain has set a new record in its tourism industry, with a staggering 11 million international visitors arriving in July 2025. This is the highest monthly total in the country’s history, as reported by Spain’s National Institute of Statistics (INE).
The first seven months of 2025 have already seen 55.5 million arrivals, with tourist spending soaring to over €76 billion. This represents a 7.2% increase compared to the same period in 2024. On average, an international tourist now spends about €1,490 per trip, or approximately €210 per day for week-long stays.
Interestingly, travel patterns are undergoing significant changes. Less than 40% of Spanish travelers are now taking holidays in August, which used to be the traditional vacation month. Instead, about one in six Spaniards now plan their holidays in September, a trend driven by the growing popularity of shoulder season travel.
“September in Spain remains irresistible,” say industry analysts, despite the rising costs of accommodation.
Hotel prices in the Canary Islands have risen by 5.3% between September 2023 and 2024. They are now around 25% higher than they were in 2019. This surge in shoulder season travel means that beaches, bars, and resorts remain busy well beyond August.
However, some popular destinations like Barcelona are taking steps to manage overtourism. Measures include crackdowns on Airbnb rentals and restructuring visitor experiences at popular sites.
