Avflight and BETA Technologies Pave the Way for Electric Aviation in Michigan
Avflight, in collaboration with the electric aerospace company BETA Technologies, has successfully established electric aircraft charging infrastructure at four Michigan-based Fixed Base Operations (FBOs). This initiative has laid the groundwork for what officials are referring to as “a foundational intrastate charging corridor for aviation’s future.”
The charging stations are now fully functional at Avflight Lansing (KLAN) and Avflight Holland (KBIV). Further installations are in the pipeline for Avflight Traverse City (KTVC) and Avflight Willow Run (KYIP). This expansion is part of a $2.6 million investment granted to BETA Technologies by the State of Michigan to bolster Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) infrastructure deployment.
“These charging stations underscore Avflight’s enduring commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship, positioning Michigan at the forefront of the national push for electric aviation,” stated Joe Meszaros, Avflight’s vice president of operations. The BETA chargers are multimodal and interoperable, designed around the Combined Charging System (CCS) standard, enabling them to serve both electric aircraft and ground vehicles.
With these new additions, Avflight’s network of electric aviation infrastructure in Michigan has tripled, joining existing sites in Ohio and Mississippi.
