Historic Public Flight Debut of Boeing MQ-28 Ghost Bat

The Boeing MQ-28 Ghost Bat, a collaborative combat aircraft, made its first public flying demonstration at Australia’s Woomera test range on September 5, 2025. Two MQ-28s participated in this historic flight, which was attended by reporters who had flown to the remote location aboard a Royal Australian Air Force Leonardo C-27J tactical transport.

Boeing and the RAAF successfully completed demonstrations, proving the operational viability of the autonomous combat aircraft. The uncrewed platforms have now completed 150 hours of physical flight testing and over 20,000 hours of virtual testing.

Key achievements include:

  • Multi-ship operations
  • Teaming with an RAAF Boeing E-7 Wedgetail
  • Data fusion between multiple aircraft

The Capability Demonstration 2025 missions were completed four months ahead of schedule in early June. Boeing Defense Australia is producing three Block 2 aircraft for more advanced testing, with plans for live-fire testing of air-to-air weapons planned for late 2025.
