Anker Initiates Recall of 1.1 Million Power Banks Due to Fire Hazards

Anker Innovations has initiated a significant recall of over 1.1 million PowerCore 10000 power banks (model A1263), in response to 19 reports of fires and explosions. The recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on June 12, 2025, after the lithium-ion batteries in these devices were found to overheat, leading to the melting of plastic components, smoke, and potential fire hazards.

The recall impacts power banks sold between June 2016 and December 2022 for approximately $27 on platforms such as Amazon, eBay, Newegg, and Anker’s own website. The company has received reports of two minor burn injuries and 11 incidents of property damage amounting to over $60,700. This recall expands on previous Anker recalls from 2024 involving models A1642, A1647, and A1652.

Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the recalled devices and contact Anker for free replacement units. To qualify for a replacement, users must:

  1. Submit photos showing the model number
  2. Include the serial number
  3. Provide their name and date
  4. Write the word “recalled” on the device with a permanent marker

The recalled batteries must be disposed of at certified facilities that accept lithium-ion batteries.

Anker has stated that the recall was conducted “out of an abundance of caution” following enhanced quality assurance protocols that detected manufacturing defects in batteries from a single vendor. A class-action lawsuit has also been filed against Anker over the safety issues.
