Travel Costs Plunge for Labor Day Weekend as AAA Reports Comprehensive Price Reductions
American travelers are reaping the benefits of significantly lower travel costs this Labor Day weekend compared to 2024. AAA reports a comprehensive reduction in prices for flights, hotels, car rentals, and gas. This cost relief comes as a pleasant surprise as the summer travel season concludes with record-breaking numbers.
Alaska cruises, theme parks, Central Oregon, and the Oregon Coast are topping the popularity charts for AAA Oregon/Idaho members this Labor Day weekend. Despite the lower costs, traveler volumes remain robust. The Thursday and Friday before the holiday have been identified as the busiest flight days. However, Saturday, August 30, and Wednesday, September 3, are less crowded alternatives.
“Many are eager to venture out for the last holiday weekend of the summer, enjoying one last vacation before the fall routine starts again,” said Doreen Loofburrow, senior vice president of travel at AAA Oregon/Idaho. The organization notes that travelers without school-age children are increasingly using Labor Day as the kickoff to the fall travel season. They are taking advantage of cooler temperatures and off-peak pricing.
