Korean Air Seals Monumental $50B Deal with Boeing for 103 Aircraft
Korean Air has made headlines with its announcement of a record-breaking $50 billion agreement with Boeing and GE Aerospace. This deal, for 103 next-generation aircraft, stands as the airline’s largest-ever order and Boeing’s most substantial widebody deal from an Asian carrier. The comprehensive package includes $36.2 billion for aircraft, $690 million for spare engines, and $13 billion for a 20-year maintenance contract.
The order comprises:
- 20 Boeing 777-9s
- 25 Boeing 787-10s
- 50 Boeing 737-10s
- 8 Boeing 777-8F freighters
Deliveries are scheduled for the 2030s. The deal was inked during South Korean President Lee Jae Myung’s visit to Washington and is projected to support 135,000 U.S. jobs. This move also fortifies Korean Air’s position as it merges with Asiana Airlines.
“This agreement marks a pivotal moment for Korean Air,” said CEO Walter Cho, highlighting the strategic importance of fleet modernization for the future competitiveness of the combined carrier.
