Historic Fatal Cessna 185 Crash at Bangor Airport

A Cessna A185F Skywagon met a tragic end at Bangor International Airport in Maine on Friday, August 22, 2025, around 1:45 p.m., claiming the life of the lone pilot aboard. The aircraft, bearing the registration N714HE and owned by Southern Aircraft Consultancy in the United Kingdom, was concluding a trans-Atlantic ferry flight when the mishap took place.

The aircraft had embarked on an extensive journey across Europe, charting a course from France to the UK, then onto Iceland, Greenland, and finally landing in Goose Bay, Canada. From there, it departed for Bangor that morning. Flight tracking data reveals that the pilot was making an attempt to land on runway 33. However, the aircraft seemed to perform a go-around before it crashed into the grass next to the runway.

This incident marks the first fatal aircraft accident in the history of Bangor International Airport. The National Transportation Safety Board and FAA have taken up the investigation of the crash.

A 9-year-old aviation enthusiast managed to capture video footage of the aircraft banking left and momentarily gaining altitude before it impacted the ground. The runway remained closed for several hours following the incident but was reopened by 4:30 p.m.
