Air Canada Flight Attendants’ Strike Commences, Disrupting Travel Plans

A strike initiated by 10,000 Air Canada flight attendants has begun today at 1:00 AM ET. This has compelled the airline to gradually wind down most of its operations over the next two days. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) is representing the striking workers at both Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge.

The airline has started notifying customers in advance about flight cancellations. Air Canada is offering free rebooking options for passengers who purchased tickets by August 14, 2025, and are scheduled to travel between August 15-19. However, customers are advised that contact center wait times may be longer than usual as the airline assists affected passengers.

The strike poses a significant impact on Canada’s aviation sector. This comes at a time when the country has been reaping the benefits of increased tourism demand. Over 10,000 flight attendants have backed the strike action with an overwhelming 99.7% union support. This highlights the high risk of extended disruptions to air travel operations across major Canadian airports, including Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal.
