UK Implements Strict Regulations on High-Risk Cosmetic Procedures
The UK government announced sweeping new regulations on August 7, 2025, targeting high-risk cosmetic procedures that have left patients “maimed and injured”. Under the new rules, only qualified healthcare professionals registered with the Care Quality Commission can perform dangerous procedures like Brazilian butt lifts and filler injections into breasts and genitals.
The crackdown follows a surge in botched procedures, including the tragic death of Alice Webb, a 33-year-old mother of five, who died following a non-surgical BBL in September 2024. Health Minister Karin Smyth stated the cosmetics industry has been “plagued by a ‘Wild West’ of dodgy practitioners.”
Clinics offering lower-risk treatments like Botox and lip fillers will need licensing from local authorities, while new age restrictions will protect under-18s from dangerous social media beauty trends. The Save Face charity has supported over 750 women who suffered unsafe procedures.
