Major Power Disruption Impacts Singapore’s North-East Line
Singapore’s North-East Line (NEL) experienced significant service disruptions on August 12, 2025. A power fault affecting 11 stations from Farrer Park to Punggol stations led to the disruptions. Commuters faced delays of up to three hours during the morning rush.
Free regular and bridging bus services were promptly deployed between the affected stations. The disruption particularly impacted stations including Serangoon and Hougang. This forced thousands of daily commuters to seek alternative transport options.
SBS Transit advised passengers to use the Circle Line as an alternative route from HarbourFront to Serangoon station. The North-East Line, Singapore’s first fully automated underground driverless heavy rail system, serves 17 stations across 22 kilometers. This line connects residential areas in the north-east to the city center.
