Elon Musk’s xAI Unveils ‘Grok Imagine’: A Groundbreaking Yet Controversial AI Video Generator
Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has officially launched Grok Imagine, a revolutionary AI-powered image and video generation tool. This innovative tool can create 15-second videos with native audio from simple text prompts. Leveraging the power of the Aurora model, it promises ultra-fast generation speeds, producing videos in half to a quarter of the time it takes to generate AI images.
What sets Grok Imagine apart—and what has sparked controversy—is its unique “Spicy Mode”. This feature allows users to generate sexually explicit content, including partial nudity, with fewer restrictions than competing platforms. It can also create content featuring celebrities and real people, albeit with some limitations. Currently, the tool is available to SuperGrok Heavy ($30/month) and Premium+ subscribers ($40/month), with daily video limits of 500 and 100 respectively.
The launch of Grok Imagine has ignited a significant debate about AI content moderation and safety guardrails. Early users laud the tool’s speed and creative capabilities, while critics express concerns about potential misuse for creating deepfakes and non-consensual content. This controversy comes in the wake of the Take It Down Act, signed into law earlier this year, which specifically targets AI-generated explicit content and holds platforms accountable for such material. xAI plans to extend public access to the tool in October 2025.
