Cathay Pacific Amplifies Fleet with Additional 14 Boeing 777-9s
Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific announced on August 6, 2025, a significant expansion of its Boeing 777-9 order. The airline is adding 14 additional aircraft, bringing its total commitment to 35 of the world’s largest twin-engine jets. This multi-billion dollar order establishes Cathay Pacific as the largest 777-9 operator in the Asia Pacific region.
The fuel-efficient Boeing 777-9 is a game-changer in aviation. It’s designed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by 20%, while cutting noise pollution by 40% compared to older aircraft models. With a range of 7,295 nautical miles, the aircraft will enable Cathay Pacific to connect Hong Kong directly to global long-haul destinations more efficiently.
“We plan to expand and renew our fleet with the additional 777-9 aircraft, enabling us to continue our rich history of connecting the world with our Hong Kong hub,” said Ronald Lam, Cathay Group Chief Executive Officer.
The airline expects to receive its first 777-9 deliveries in 2027. The aircraft will feature Cathay’s new premium cabin products, enhancing passenger comfort and experience.
