Joby Aviation Takes Over Blade’s Passenger Business in a $125M Deal
Joby Aviation, a leading developer of electric air taxis, announced on August 4, 2025, its acquisition of Blade Air Mobility’s helicopter rideshare passenger business. The deal, worth up to $125 million, provides Joby with immediate access to established infrastructure across key urban markets in the U.S. and Europe, including 12 terminals in major cities like New York.
The acquisition encompasses all of Blade’s passenger operations, which transported over 50,000 passengers in 2024 through dedicated terminals at John F. Kennedy International Airport, Newark Liberty Airport, and various Manhattan locations. Rob Wiesenthal, Blade’s founder and CEO, will continue to lead the business as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Joby.
This strategic transaction enables Joby to leverage Blade’s operational expertise as it gears up to launch its eVTOL air taxi service. The first passenger flights are planned for Dubai next year. As part of the agreement, $35 million of the purchase price is contingent upon achieving performance milestones and retaining key employees.
