The Iconic Waldorf Astoria New York: A Grand Reopening After Eight Years

The legendary Waldorf Astoria New York has officially flung open its doors once again on July 15, 2025. This comes after an extensive $2 billion renovation that has breathed new life into the historic property. The iconic Park Avenue landmark had been closed since 2017, but now it stands renewed with 375 luxurious guest rooms and 372 private residences, a significant decrease from its original 1,400 rooms.

The meticulously restored hotel now boasts three exquisite dining venues. These include the Peacock Alley, the signature restaurant Lex Yard helmed by Chef Michael Anthony, and Yoshoku, a unique Japanese kaiseki concept. The property retains its Art Deco grandeur while seamlessly incorporating modern amenities. The rooms, averaging over 570 square feet, are designed to evoke the feel of private apartments.

Chris Nassetta, President and CEO of Hilton, has lauded the Waldorf Astoria New York as “the most important hotel in the world.” He further added, “It is the original luxury property and the place where luxury service was perfected.” The hotel’s legendary Grand Ballroom and the expansive 20,000-square-foot Guerlain Wellness Spa are scheduled to open in September 2025. Room rates are set to start at approximately $1,100-1,800 per night.
