Solar-Powered Xenos Motor-Glider Makes Its Debut at Washington’s Premier Aircraft Charging Port
EAA Chapter 406 at Bremerton National Airport in Washington has successfully unveiled their electric-powered Xenos motor-glider to the public on July 11, 2025. This marks a significant milestone in the field of sustainable aviation education.
The solar-powered aircraft boasts a 45-minute flight endurance, requiring a mere two-hour recharge time. This impressive feat is made possible by solar panels donated by Sunergy Systems. These panels are installed on the Bremerton Aviation Center for Education (BACE) building. This project signifies the establishment of Washington state’s first public access electric aircraft charging port, a collaborative effort with the Port of Bremerton.
Chapter officials expressed their excitement about the project, stating, “When our EAA chapter flies youngsters for their first introduction to aviation in our Young Eagles program, it will be in a vehicle powered by the sun.” The four-year educational project has provided invaluable hands-on learning opportunities for students of all ages. Notably, newly licensed pilot Annika Pexton, a scholarship recipient and regular building session participant, performed the aircraft’s first taxi demonstration.
