Greece Experiences Tourism Boom, Led by India’s Long-Haul Travel Growth

Greece is currently witnessing a significant increase in long-haul tourism. Leading this growth is India, as revealed by a recent study conducted by INSETE, the tourism development agency of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE). The study involved a survey of 12,767 internet users, aged between 16 and 64, who are planning international holidays in the upcoming 12 months.

An impressive 72.4% of Indian travelers expressed their intention to travel abroad in the next year, the highest percentage among all markets surveyed. This suggests a promising diversification of Greece’s tourism sources, extending well beyond Europe to include countries such as America, Canada, Australia, and particularly India. The data points towards a rising interest in Greek destinations from non-European markets.

The study also underscores Greece’s growing allure in premium tourism segments. The country has successfully established itself as an attractive long-haul destination. This trend mirrors larger shifts in global travel patterns, with emerging markets like India showing an increased capacity and interest in outbound travel to European cultural destinations.
