Uber, Lucid & Nuro Join Forces to Launch 20,000 Robotaxis by 2026

Uber Technologies has unveiled a game-changing partnership with Lucid Group, an electric vehicle manufacturer, and Nuro, an autonomous driving startup. The ambitious plan involves deploying a minimum of 20,000 robotaxis within the coming six years. As part of this strategic alliance, Uber will be investing a whopping $300 million in Lucid.

The forthcoming robotaxi fleet will be powered by Lucid Gravity SUVs, which will be equipped with Nuro’s Level 4 autonomous driving technology. The first batch of these futuristic vehicles is slated for a grand launch in a major U.S. city by the end of 2026. Following this announcement, Lucid’s stock witnessed a dramatic surge of 31%, marking its largest leap in over two years.

This partnership propels Uber into a more competitive position in the autonomous vehicle market, where it will face off against rivals such as Waymo and Tesla. The Lucid Gravity’s impressive 450-mile range is strategically designed to minimize downtime for charging, thereby maximizing vehicle availability for the robotaxi service. Prototype testing is already in progress at Nuro’s Las Vegas proving grounds.
