NASA’s Parker Solar Probe has captured the most detailed images ever taken of the Sun’s atmosphere, recorded from just 3.8 million miles away from the solar surface. The stunning visuals, released on July 15, 2025, show solar wind structures and three coronal mass ejections combining in unprecedented detail.
These images reveal how superhot ionized particles travel through space at speeds exceeding 1 million miles per hour, providing crucial insights for predicting space weather that affects Earth. “We are witnessing where space weather threats to Earth begin, with our eyes, not just with models,” said Nicky Fox, associate administrator at NASA.
The probe’s observations help scientists understand how solar storms form and could improve forecasts of geomagnetic events that can disrupt:
