Unprecedented Growth in Cruise Industry: 37.7 Million Passengers Expected by 2025

The global cruise industry is currently riding a wave of unprecedented growth, with projections reaching as high as 37.7 million passengers for 2025. This data is according to the latest State of the Cruise Industry Report from the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA).

This figure represents a significant increase from the 34.6 million passengers welcomed in 2024. The industry is demonstrating remarkable resilience and appeal, with 82% of cruisers planning to cruise again and 68% of international travelers considering their first cruise.

North America continues to hold its position as the top source market for cruising, showing a 13% increase in 2024 over 2023. CLIA member lines are set to welcome 11 new ships to the global fleet in 2025, with 56 new ocean-going vessels on order through 2036. This represents a staggering $56.8 billion investment.

The Caribbean/Bahamas/Bermuda region continues to dominate itineraries, hosting 43% of all cruise passengers in 2024. The industry’s economic impact is substantial, generating over $168 billion globally and supporting 1.6 million jobs.
