The Grand Reopening of the Iconic Waldorf Astoria New York Approaches in 2025

The legendary Waldorf Astoria New York is gearing up for its much-anticipated reopening in September 2025. The hotel is now accepting reservations for stays starting from September 1st. This iconic Manhattan property has been under wraps since 2017, undergoing an extensive $2 billion renovation and restoration project.

The re-envisioned hotel will feature a mere 375 guest rooms and suites, a significant reduction from the original 1,400 rooms. This change allows for significantly larger accommodations, with rooms starting at 570 square feet. The property will beautifully blend restored Art Deco elements with modern luxury amenities. These amenities include a sprawling 20,000 square foot spa and fitness center.

Chef Michael Anthony will be at the helm of the signature restaurant, Lex Yard. This two-story American Brasserie concept is sure to delight guests. The restoration has been expertly led by renowned architects Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon. They have painstakingly preserved historic elements such as the famous Grand Ballroom and the 1893 World’s Fair clock in the lobby.

The project has faced numerous hurdles since its original 2021 target. These include ownership changes, pandemic impacts, and budget overruns. The reopening will signify the return of one of New York’s most prestigious hotels to its rightful place as a flagship luxury destination.
