Revolutionary AI Model Kimi K2 by Chinese Startup Moonshot Outshines GPT-4
Chinese artificial intelligence startup Moonshot AI has unveiled Kimi K2, a ground-breaking open-source language model. This model significantly surpasses OpenAI’s GPT-4 in key benchmarks and is entirely free to use. Kimi K2 boasts 1 trillion total parameters with 32 billion activated parameters, marking a significant leap in AI capabilities.
On LiveCodeBench, regarded as the most realistic coding benchmark, Kimi K2 achieved a stunning 53.7% accuracy, decisively outperforming GPT-4.1’s 44.7%. Even more impressive, it scored a whopping 97.4% on MATH-500 compared to GPT-4.1’s 92.4%. This suggests that Moonshot has overcome fundamental challenges in mathematical reasoning that have stumped larger, better-funded competitors.
The standout feature of the model is its optimization for “agentic” capabilities—the ability to autonomously use tools, write and execute code, and complete complex multi-step tasks without human intervention. “Kimi K2 does not just answer; it acts,” the company stated. This breakthrough represents a philosophical shift from conversational AI to truly productive AI systems, with Moonshot achieving superior results at a fraction of the cost of incumbent models.
