Malaysia Airlines Amplifies A330neo Fleet with Monumental $6 Billion Purchase
Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the parent company of Malaysia Airlines, has sealed a significant fleet expansion by ordering an additional 20 Airbus A330-900 aircraft in a deal valued at $6 billion. This acquisition doubles the airline’s A330neo commitment to 40 aircraft, reinforcing its standing as one of the largest A330neo operators in the Asia-Pacific region.
The announcement was made during Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s state visit to France, underscoring the burgeoning aerospace collaboration between Malaysia and Europe. The new aircraft, powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, are scheduled for delivery between 2029 and 2031, and will feature advanced cabin designs for enhanced passenger comfort.
Malaysia Airlines has already initiated operations with four A330neos on key routes to Melbourne, Auckland, and Bali, with an additional six more slated for delivery this year. The expansion bolsters the airline’s long-haul growth strategy and fleet modernization efforts, positioning Malaysia Airlines as a premium choice for travelers in Southeast Asia.
