Microsoft Defender Gets Major Update to Block Email Bombing Attacks
Microsoft has rolled out a significant update to its Defender security platform that will automatically block email bombing campaigns, one of the most dangerous types of cyberattacks.
New Feature Rollout
The new feature, which started rolling out and should reach most users by the end of July 2025, will automatically send all emails identified as part of an email bombing campaign straight to the junk folder.
What is Email Bombing?
Email bombing attacks overwhelm victims’ inboxes with thousands of unwanted emails, often used to hide fraudulent transactions or account breaches.
Benefit for Office 365 Users
The feature will be enabled by default for Microsoft Office 365 users, requiring no additional configuration. This represents a major step forward in protecting users from sophisticated cyberattacks that can compromise both personal and business communications.
