Ilya Sutskever Takes Helm as CEO of Safe Superintelligence Following Meta’s Acquisition of Daniel Gross
OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever has stepped into the CEO role at Safe Superintelligence, the AI startup he helped bring to life. This move comes in the wake of Meta’s acquisition of former CEO Daniel Gross, a key part of Mark Zuckerberg’s ambitious AI talent acquisition drive.
Gross’s Departure and Sutskever’s Ascension
Sutskever announced on Thursday that Gross’s tenure had been gradually coming to an end, with his official last day being June 29. The startup, which was valued at a staggering $32 billion in April, is dedicated to the development of ‘safe superintelligence’. This concept refers to an intelligence that surpasses human capabilities while maintaining alignment with human interests.
Changes in the Company Structure
With Gross’s departure, co-founder Daniel Levy will now take on the role of president. Meanwhile, the technical team will continue to report directly to Sutskever.
Resisting Meta’s Acquisition Attempts
Despite Meta’s attempts to acquire the company, Sutskever firmly resisted these efforts. He stated that they are ‘focused on seeing our work through’ and confidently asserted that they possess the necessary compute power, team expertise, and knowledge to successfully build safe superintelligence.
