Amazon to Shut Down Freevee in August 2025
Amazon has officially announced that its free, ad-supported streaming service Freevee will shut down in August 2025. The content will be integrated into Prime Video under a new “Watch for Free” section.
Users have begun receiving in-app notifications this week, confirming that all Freevee content will remain available without requiring a Prime subscription. Shows like the Emmy-nominated “Jury Duty” and “Bosch: Legacy” will continue streaming for free with ads.
This move marks Amazon’s strategic decision to consolidate its streaming services and reduce brand confusion, especially following the introduction of Prime Video’s ad-supported tier in January 2024.
Originally launched as IMDb TV in 2019 and rebranded to Freevee in 2022, the service was available in the US, UK, Germany, and Austria.
