Amazon announced Monday its millionth worker robot, with the entire fleet now powered by a newly launched generative artificial intelligence model called DeepFleet. The milestone strengthens Amazon’s position as the world’s largest manufacturer and operator of mobile robotics across more than 300 facilities.

The new AI model, called DeepFleet, is expected to improve robot travel efficiency by 10 percent across Amazon’s fulfillment network, supporting faster customer deliveries and reducing operational costs. Amazon employs about 1.5 million people globally, including about 1.2 million people in its warehouses, bringing its robot workforce closer than ever to matching its human one.

The move comes at a time when more tech companies are cutting jobs and warning of automation. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy recently told CNBC that the company’s rapid rollout of generative AI will result in “fewer people doing some of the jobs that the technology actually starts to automate.” However, Amazon maintains that robots handle repetitive tasks while creating new opportunities for employees to develop technical skills.
